Why is Video So Friggin’ Hard To Build?
Video is friggin' hard to build. Here are 6 reasons why:
- Videos need to be transcoded to work on different devices and browsers
- Whenever a new device or browser is released, your system needs to be tested and possibly upgraded or altered to work in the new browser or device.
- If you want to take advantage of webRTC/HTML, your system needs to be built to accommodate it.
- For computers that only accept Flash, you want to make sure Flash is a default for your system.
- If you want to customize the video experience, eg put a limit on recording time or ensure the aspect ratio is preserved, that needs to be built.
- Measures for slow systems or a loss of Internet need to be accounted for so that videos are preserved rather than lost while uploading.
