A Hackathon for Grown Ups

Last month Ziggeo organized Video Hack Day dubbed “a hackathon for Grown-ups.” Sponsored by Google and held at General Assembly in NYC, attendees called it “the best hackathon” they ever attended. Here’s how we did it:

  • No overnights: it was a one day Hackathon that started in the morning and ended that same evening. That meant: —everyone could get sleep— no macho showing of staying up all night —attendees were away from home just one day, back in time for Mother’s Day (the following day) —sponsors and API providers stayed basically the entire time to answer any questions
  • A “no pizza” hackathon: we made sure to serve healthy, delicious food starting with freshly made egg sandwiches and ending with fresh Mexican food delivered from a local restaurant.
  • Grown up prizes: including a Social Impact prize that donated $250 to the recipient’s favorite charity (in addition to a special Mother’s Day prize)
