Non-negotiable Questions
We recently interviewed someone in charge of talent acquisition at one of the hot new startups in New York, and when we asked her the kinds of questions she asks candidates, she responded that she always asks "non-negotiable questions" that qualifies candidates up front. When pressed, she explained that those were questions that elicited answers that were non-negotiable. That is, without certain qualifications or experience in a particular area (e.g. understanding a particular computer program in the case of engineers), that person would not be hired.
So when using Ziggeo, she always makes sure to ask up front those non-negotiable questions to narrow the pool down to only qualified candidates. She says it's saved her lots of time by avoiding in-person meetings with anyone who doesn't meet her non-negotiable criteria.
So the next time you need to think up questions to ask in any pre-screening, ask yourself what's non-negotiable. You may just save yourself lots of time trying to negotiate your way out of a painful interview.
