Our Pivot Turned Our Competitors Into Our Customers
When we originally started Ziggeo, it was a b to c recruitment platform that relied on candidates recording videos for employers to view. Soon after launch a number of competitors entered our space — hundreds and then thousands of them.
We all shared a similar pain point. No off-the-shelf API technology existed for the video recording and playback component— at least one good enough for our purposes. As a result, we dedicated months and months of full time engineering resources to build our own solution solution.
Flash forward: In seeing the bigger opportunity, we pivoted. Our business became that technology. We closed our recruitment platform — and all of those competitors in the recruitment space went away. Instead of having thousands of competitors, we were down to just a handful that clearly had mediocre technology.
In fact, ironically, our original competitors became our customers. It was clear they had the same pain point we had in not wanting to build the video recording/playback technology themselves.
That’s how we got rid of our competitors. And they became our customers.
