We All Hate Blind Dates (Mentors/Mentees Are No Exception)
Being set up on a blind date is the worst. You don't know who you're expecting. What if there's no chemistry? What if you have nothing in common, nothing to say?
The same goes for matching mentors to mentees. It's not just about matching qualifications with needs. There's a key, human element missing from most matching processes.
That's where asynchronous video comes in. By recording short introductory videos (in addition to submitting basic info), mentors/mentees can in effect match themselves.
And what about in-person mentor matchmaking events? Of course that's ideal. But use recorded video to pave the way for matching at the event. How wonderful to walk into an event already knowing who your possible matches are. And for those who can't attend, they haven't missed out: they can still watch the videos.
This is the 21st Century, folks. Let them match themselves.
