What to have close by during recording

Are you sure that you have everything you need for when recording starts? Did you under prepare? Maybe you over-prepared? Well we will go through a very simple list of pros and cons for your live video or video recording.

Before we start, we should mention that this is part of the series How to look like a pro on video.

Before its showtime

If you read these series from the start, you have seen that we mentioned importance of writing things down. This is the first thing you would need. At this point - the showtime - you will have a list you already practiced with.

The goal right now is just to have it near.

It can be useful to remind you what to talk about making it as one less thing to think about.

Clean desk

This depends from the video recording to video recording. Obviously if you are recording for yourself and will submit the video later, you have more freedom than if you are being asked live.

Having a clean surface in front of you can however help keep your mind clear of various things that could pop up otherwise. It also makes it easier with the next thing you should consider.

A glass of water near by

Depending on the length of call and if you are nervous, or if it is hot summer time, you might become thirsty. For that reason it is good to have a glass of water so you can quickly refresh your throat and continue on.

This is especially important if you are going to be part of a longer call.

The way this connects to the clean desk is that you can put that glass anywhere without thinking if it wall fall over.

Something to jot down on

Depending on the type of video you will be recording it might be a good idea to have something to write with and something to write on near you. While this might not be important while recording some videos it could be for others. If you are in an interview, webinar or talking with your customer you will look more like a pro if you have something to write things down real quick.

Summary

As you have noticed there are some differences in regards to what you would need depending on the video you are recording. Generally having a glass of water is something we would recommend the most.

In next article in the series we will go onto a different subject - "How to express yourself properly", so make sure to check it out.
