Our “Aha” Moment: Personalizing Screening Rooms with Videos and Logos

In yesterday's Data Day, we revealed that by adding a company logo and interviewer video to a screening room, an interviewer could attract five time the number of candidates than without any such customization.

It got us thinking.  What is it about the logo and video makes it so much more compelling for candidates to respond?  And then we had an "aha" moment.  It's clear that for candidates, the video and logo set apart the particular position from all the others.  In fact, it's quite similar to how interviewers view videos of candidates.  Without the video -- or any other sort of distinguishing factor -- resumes and cover letters of most candidates look pretty much alike.  That is, most candidates went to college or have the required degree and most can write an adequate cover letter without any blatant errors.  So how can interviewers distinguish candidates from one another -- by watching their videos!

Similarly, how can candidates distinguish one job posting from another?  After all, most postings for similar positions look pretty much the same.  Unless there's some way to include a personal spin, a way to convince candidates that the position you're offering is somehow unique, it will be difficult for your position to stand out in the crowd.  Which is where interviewer videos come in (and to a smaller extent, company logos).  These personal touches are a way to distinguish your company and the position from other similar ones.  You and your company will be able to shine by giving your company and the position a personal spin.  The candidate can see for herself who may be the hiring manager and can hear first hand why the company is a great place to work.

And that was our "aha" moment of the week.
